British Transport Police are investigating a disturbing assault on a train at Birmingham New Street station, during which a woman allegedly spat in a man's face after he boarded the service with three dogs.

Details of the incident

The incident occurred at around 7:30am on Wednesday, 8 April. The man had boarded the train with his three dogs when a woman began shouting at him. She then spat in his face before leaving the scene. No arrests have been made.

Police appeal for information

Police have released a CCTV image of a woman they believe may have information that could assist their investigation. In a statement, a British Transport Police spokesperson said: "Officers are today releasing a CCTV image following a report of a woman spitting on a passenger. At around 7.30am on Wednesday, 8 April, a man boarded a train at Birmingham New Street with his three dogs. A woman also boarded the service, and as she walked past the man, she began shouting at him before spitting in his face."

The spokesperson added: "Officers believe the woman in the image may have information that could help their investigation. If you recognise her or have any information, please contact BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 940 of 8 April. Information can also be given to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."

Ongoing investigation

Police inquiries continue. No further details about the suspect or the victim have been released at this stage. The incident has sparked concern among passengers about safety on public transport.
