Shocking fan footage has captured the on-pitch drama that unfolded after Gornal Athletic's defeat by Sutton United in the Midlands Football League Division One Playoff final on Saturday.
Clashes Erupt at Garden Walk Stadium
The match, held at Garden Walk Stadium in Gornal, ended with a 2-1 victory for Sutton United. As Sutton supporters ran onto the pitch to celebrate with their players, several Gornal fans also invaded the field, leading to clashes between the two sets of supporters.
Footage taken by X user Matt (@mpwolf94) shows the unbelievable scenes unfolding on the pitch. In the video, people can be seen throwing punches, while several flares were thrown onto the pitch and then thrown back into the packed main stand. More than 1,500 people attended the final.
Police Intervention
Police officers were seen running across the pitch to break up the scuffles, with at least one police dog also present at the scene. It took at least 15 minutes to clear the pitch and move fans away from the area.
West Midlands Police have been contacted for a comment regarding the incident.
