Police Crackdown on Illegal Parking in South Oxfordshire

Major Police Operation Targets Driving Offences in South Oxfordshire

Motorists in South Oxfordshire are facing a significant police crackdown on driving offences as authorities tackle unpaid fines and illegal activities. Thames Valley Police have launched targeted operations to address community concerns about anti-social parking and motorway obstruction in the area.

Industrial Sites Under Scrutiny

The police have responded to numerous complaints about two industrial sites in South Oxfordshire: Pettiwell in Garsington and Littleworth Industrial Estate. Both locations host several automotive businesses that have been causing persistent problems for local residents.

Concerns include vehicles without valid tax or MOT certificates being parked on public highways and Parish Council land. This has created significant parking difficulties for residents and caused frequent congestion on the road through Littleworth, sometimes preventing local buses from passing through.

Unpaid Fines and Immigration Issues

Thames Valley Police revealed that vehicles at these sites have accumulated approximately £33,000 in unpaid fines during 2025 alone. During recent operations, police used drone surveillance that identified several individuals attempting to flee as officers entered the premises.

Three people were discovered hiding in car boots, and six adults in total were handed over to immigration officers for further investigation. This highlights the broader criminal activities occurring alongside the parking violations.

Vehicle Compliance Failures

The crackdown extended to MOT testing centres in the area, where compliance visits revealed serious deficiencies. One testing station failed to meet required standards due to missed vehicle defects and received a temporary suspension notice, effectively placing it on stop.

Another MOT testing centre in Garsington was assessed as unsatisfactory because of inadequate parking arrangements. Police also inspected an Audi Q7 that displayed incorrect registration plates on both front and rear, resulting in a prohibition notice being issued.

Vehicle Enforcement Actions

Enforcement teams took decisive action against non-compliant vehicles:

  • Five vehicles were clamped for having no valid tax
  • Four vehicles were transported to Reading Pound
  • One vehicle owner paid the required tax at roadside
  • Thirty untaxed vehicles were identified by ANPR technology during a single day's patrol from Birmingham
  • The DVLA dealt with seven vehicles displaying non-compliant number plates

Thames Valley Police emphasized their commitment to addressing these issues, stating they have specifically targeted anti-social parking and motorway obstruction in response to community concerns. The operation demonstrates a comprehensive approach to tackling both traffic violations and associated criminal activities in South Oxfordshire.
