Police have launched a major investigation following the death of a man in Coventry on Friday evening.
Emergency response on Clayton Road
Officers from West Midlands Police were called to Clayton Road in Coventry at approximately 8.10pm on Friday, January 10. They had been alerted by ambulance colleagues who were already at the scene.
Upon arrival, police discovered a 63-year-old local man with serious injuries. Despite the immediate and sustained efforts of paramedics to save his life, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Specialist officers are now supporting the man's family as they come to terms with their sudden loss.
Arrest made as enquiries continue
As part of their ongoing investigation, police have arrested a 37-year-old man. He has been detained on suspicion of death by careless driving and drink-driving.
The investigation, which remains in its early stages, is being led by the force's Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU). Detectives are working to establish the exact circumstances that led to the tragic incident.
Door-to-door enquiries have been conducted in the local area, and officers are reviewing available CCTV footage from the vicinity to piece together the events of Friday evening.

Police are now making a direct appeal to the public for assistance. Investigators are particularly keen to hear from anyone who was in the Clayton Road area around the time of the incident, or any motorists who may have captured relevant footage on dashcams.
