Police Officer Abused While Tackling School-Run Parking in Wollescote
Police Officer Abused Over School-Run Parking in Wollescote

Police were 'shocked' by the parking outside Wollescote Primary School, where parents put 'children and other pedestrians at risk' during the school run. To 'avoid walking a short distance', people had pulled up on the crossing and white zig-zag lines outside the school.

An officer was also subjected to 'abuse' while policing the poor parking on Monday, May 18. Halesowen Police took to X to share pictures of offending vehicles.

An accompanying post read: 'During our attendance at Wollescote Primary School today, officers were shocked to see parents parking on the crossing to avoid walking a short distance. These actions put children and other pedestrians at risk. We were also disappointed by the abuse directed at the officer. All vehicles have all been issued fixed penalty notices.'

Public Reaction

One reply read: 'Sadly not one aspect of report surprises me... Repeated with so many West Midlands schools including abuse at 'shocked (really!!) 'officers'. Time to 'engage with partners' and deliver sustained impacting responses eg fines/points, making car issues a higher strategic priority.'

Another said: 'My daughter's a teenager now but I used to come home upset every day after the morning school run. This is the norm. Lazy parents. Parents who don’t think twice about blocking drives or parking across dropped kerbs putting children/ parents pushing prams/riding scooters in danger.'

A third chipped in: 'Try attending Lutley Primary School, Brookwillow Road. Selfish, idle and dangerous parking daily and mainly by the same parents.'
