Specialist Police Team Seizes Deadly Weapons from Boys in West Midlands
Over the weekend, officers from the West Midlands Police's specialist Project Guardian taskforce made significant seizures of dangerous weapons from young individuals across the region. The team, which is dedicated to tackling knife crime and youth violence, recovered a zombie knife, a machete, and a knuckle duster from three separate boys in different locations.
Arrests and Seizures Across Birmingham and the Black Country
In Birmingham city centre, Guardian officers arrested a 17-year-old boy on Saturday, March 28, after a machete was found during searches in The Priory Queensway area. The teenager has been bailed pending further investigations into the incident.
Meanwhile, in Walsall town centre, also on Saturday, officers stopped a 16-year-old boy who was acting suspiciously. A subsequent search led to the recovery of a knuckle duster, resulting in the boy's arrest on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon. He too has been bailed as enquiries continue.
Further Incidents and Charges
Later that same afternoon, another 17-year-old boy was stopped by police, who discovered a zombie knife in his possession. The boy was arrested for possession of a bladed article and additionally for assaulting a police officer. He has been charged with these offences and was scheduled to appear before Wolverhampton magistrates on Monday.
On Sunday, the Guardian team extended their operations to Chelmsley Wood in Solihull, where they arrested two men, aged 20 and 21, on suspicion of drugs offences. A quantity of Class B drugs was recovered during this intervention.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police emphasised the ongoing efforts of the Project Guardian taskforce, stating, "Our Guardian Taskforce has had another busy weekend making multiple arrests and seizing weapons to keep the streets safe." The spokesperson highlighted that Project Guardian employs a variety of tactics, including plain-clothed operations, high-visibility patrols, and positive engagement with young people, with a particular focus on reducing knife crime.
