In a shocking lunchtime incident, brazen ram raiders used a car to smash into the front of a pawnbrokers on one of Birmingham's busiest shopping streets. The raiders emerged from the vehicle and appeared to pile loot from the store into the car before making a swift escape. Within seconds, smoke began pouring from the premises, and the boot of the car was seen slightly open as it sped away. Pictures taken in the aftermath show a badly damaged shop front, highlighting the force of the impact.

Eyewitness Accounts and Community Impact

A shop owner, who wished to remain anonymous, claimed there were several individuals involved in the attack. He stated, "People managed to detain a man but the police didn’t arrive for 15 minutes. I think there were arrests." When asked if he was scared, he added, "We’re fine but it’s not good for business."

Staff at Harveen’s Collection, located next door to the pawnbrokers, said they stayed inside out of fear and "didn’t see anything" during the chaos. A shopkeeper opposite the pawnbrokers described hearing shouts and screams, saying, "I heard ‘oi, oi, oi’, and looked out my window and saw all this. There was lots of screaming."

Road Closures and Traffic Disruptions

The Soho Road Business Improvement District (BID) issued a warning advising traders, staff, customers, and suppliers to avoid the section of Soho Road from the Grove Lane junction to the Boulton Road junction due to the police and emergency services closure. They urged people to allow extra time for travel and consider alternative routes. The road was later understood to have reopened, but the incident has caused significant disruption in the area.

This ram raid underscores ongoing concerns about crime in Birmingham's shopping districts, with local authorities and police continuing their investigations into the brazen attack.
