Road Rage Driver Pointed Imitation Gun at Engineer

A road rage driver who pointed an imitation firearm at a broadband engineer in a Midlands street has been jailed for 18 months. The incident occurred on London Road in Nottingham on April 15 last year, leaving the victim terrified he was about to be shot.

The Incident

Kiejuan Brandy, 23, forced the broadband engineer to brake when he swerved into the right-hand lane to overtake a cyclist. The 25-year-old van driver beeped his horn at Brandy, who reacted by pulling alongside him in queuing traffic at a red light. Both drivers wound down their windows and engaged in a heated exchange.

Brandy then pulled out what appeared to be a semi-automatic pistol and shouted: “Do you want to carry on talking?” The terrified broadband engineer apologised, but Brandy pulled on the top of the firearm so it made a distinctive metal clicking sound. The victim feared he was about to be shot before Brandy drove forwards and left the scene.

Arrest and Sentencing

Following the incident, the victim called the police. Brandy was later arrested at his home address on Oakmead Avenue, Bilborough, where an imitation firearm matching the description was found. He pleaded guilty to possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court on April 28.

Detective Constable Farhan Dewan-Williams, from Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was an appalling incident that understandably left the victim feeling extremely scared. These kind of road rage incidents are thankfully rare and will always be met with a robust police response. I am pleased the judge imposed an immediate custodial sentence and I hope this offers the victim some comfort following such a traumatic incident. This case acts as a reminder to road users to act responsibly and remain calm during stressful moments while on the move.”
