Wiltshire Sex Offender Found Guilty of Multiple Charges

A 45-year-old sex offender from Oxfordshire has been convicted for a series of sexual offences, including raping a woman while she was asleep. Daniel Smith, of Ladywell Close, North Leigh, was found guilty by a jury at Swindon Crown Court following a trial.

Details of the Offences

The court heard how Smith committed rape inside a property in Wiltshire while his victim was sleeping. The following month, he entered her bed without consent and sexually assaulted her. Smith was convicted on charges of rape, sexual assault, and breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).

Investigating officer DC Hemns of Wiltshire Police praised the victim's immense bravery throughout the investigation and court process. He stated that the victim had to relive her trauma during cross-examination but remained supportive of the prosecution.

Remanded Ahead of Sentencing

The defendant has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to be sentenced in January. DC Hemns expressed hope that the verdict would allow the victim to begin healing after a two-year ordeal.
