Zeshan Afzal was discovered with severe stab wounds following an altercation that occurred in the car park outside Oldbury Jamia Masjid on Oldbury Road in Smethwick. The incident took place on Friday, February 20, at approximately 9 p.m., shortly after he had attended evening prayers inside the mosque with his father and close friends.
Friends, speaking with the family's blessing, have painted a picture of Zeshan as a beloved son and brother, cherished by a wide network of relatives and friends now grappling with an immense loss. Rajab Arshad, a close friend, expressed the community's shock, stating, "It is just shocking, terrible. He had such a pure heart."

Described as a "really good man" with a "pure heart," Zeshan was deeply loved and had ambitious plans for his future. He aspired to start businesses and build a prosperous life not only for himself but also for his family and friends. In a poignant detail, Zeshan had been saving up for his Hajj pilgrimage, scheduled to take place in just two months. Shortly before his untimely death, he posted a heartfelt message in memory of his mother, who passed away when he was young, fondly recalling her cooking and the love she shared.

Due to the ongoing police investigation into his death, funeral arrangements have not yet been made. West Midlands Police have confirmed that a 17-year-old boy has been charged with Zeshan's murder as investigations continue.
