Soho Road Pawnbrokers Ram Raid: Police Launch Appeal After Broad Daylight Attack
Police have launched a public appeal for information following a dramatic ram raid at H&T Pawnbrokers on Soho Road in Handsworth. The incident occurred in broad daylight at approximately 12:30 pm on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, shocking local residents and business owners.
Dramatic Scene as Car Smashes Shop Front
Video footage from the scene captured a silver Peugeot 207 repeatedly reversing into the shop's glass frontage, causing significant damage and scattering shattered glass across the pavement. Occupants of the vehicle then exited and began loading items into the car before driving away swiftly. Smoke was observed emanating from inside the premises shortly after the vehicle departed.
Emergency Services Response and Road Closures
Police, fire, and ambulance crews promptly attended the location. The road was partially closed to facilitate the emergency response, leading to bus diversions before it later reopened. West Midlands Police confirmed that a substantial quantity of jewellery was stolen during the incident, and the offenders successfully fled the area.
Witness Accounts and Community Impact
A nearby shop owner reported that several individuals were involved in the raid and claimed that members of the public detained a man prior to police arrival approximately 15 minutes later. He described the event as "not good for business" but noted that his establishment was otherwise fine. Staff at a neighbouring shop expressed fear, choosing to remain inside and thus missing the events, while a shopkeeper opposite recounted hearing shouting and witnessing "lots of screaming."
Police Appeal for Information and Footage
Officers are urging witnesses who have not yet come forward to make contact. They are particularly interested in dash-cam footage from anyone who was in the vicinity at the time of the incident. Individuals with information are asked to call 101, quoting log number 2277 of April 15.
Local Business Warning and Aftermath
Soho Road Business Improvement District (BID) advised traders and the public to avoid the section between Grove Lane and Boulton Road while emergency services managed the scene. The road has since been reopened. This brazen attack has heightened concerns about community safety and the impact on local commerce in the Handsworth area.
