Sopranos Actor Indicted on 31 Counts in NJ Road Rage Shooting
Sopranos Actor Faces Attempted Murder Charge

A former actor with a minor role in the iconic HBO series The Sopranos is facing a litany of serious criminal charges following a violent road rage incident in New Jersey last year. Ernest Heinz, 47, has been indicted by a grand jury on a total of 31 counts, the most severe being first-degree attempted murder.

Details of the Violent Confrontation

The charges stem from a shocking event that unfolded in September 2024 near Stockton University in Galloway Township. According to prosecutors, a verbal dispute between Heinz and another driver, Maritza Arias-Galva, escalated dramatically at a traffic light.

Authorities allege that Heinz shouted death threats and profanities at the victim, including the phrase, "I'm going to kill you today." He is then accused of firing a single shot from his vehicle into the victim's car. The bullet struck Arias-Galva in the face, entering through her nose and exiting the side of her cheek.

Severe Aftermath and Legal Proceedings

The injuries sustained by Maritza Arias-Galva, a mother of three, were catastrophic. The attack reportedly left her permanently blind in her right eye. Her son has since spoken to the press, stating that while the family is devastated by her permanent injury, they are thankful she survived what they describe as a miraculous outcome given the severity of the wound.

Heinz is currently being held without bail at the Atlantic County Justice Facility while he awaits trial. His defence attorney unsuccessfully argued for house arrest, suggesting the case might be better framed as passion-provocation manslaughter—a lesser charge than attempted murder. The extensive indictment also includes counts for aggravated assault with a firearm and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

Background of the Accused

Beyond his minor acting credit in The Sopranos, Ernest Heinz has worked professionally as a real estate and mortgage broker. The case has drawn significant attention due to his connection to the famous television series and the extreme violence of the alleged crime, which highlights the dangers of road rage escalating into life-altering tragedy.
