Railway Station Security Guard Sentenced for Sexual Assault on Teenager
A security guard employed at a Midlands railway station has been handed a custodial sentence after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl while he was on duty. The disturbing incident took place at Worcester Shrub Hill station, where the guard exploited his position of trust to target the vulnerable teenager.
Details of the Assault and Investigation
The attack occurred on November 14, 2021, when Aamar Mohammed, aged 35, approached the young victim at the station. Wearing his high-visibility work vest, he initially engaged her in conversation, asking about her travel plans. After walking her to the correct platform, Mohammed invited the girl into a station office under the pretence of allowing her to wait for her train in a warmer environment.
Once inside the office, the situation turned sinister. Mohammed turned off the lights and proceeded to force himself upon the teenager, causing her physical injuries. The victim managed to escape and returned to the platform to board her train. Shockingly, CCTV footage captured Mohammed emerging from the office and waving at the girl as her train departed the station.
Legal Proceedings and Sentencing
The brave victim reported the assault to her family, who immediately contacted the police. British Transport Police detectives acted swiftly, arresting Mohammed at his home on Shireland Road in Sandwell later that same day. He was charged with multiple offences related to the sexual assault.
Following a failure to appear for a court hearing, Mohammed was rearrested at his residence in March 2023. The case proceeded to Worcester Crown Court, where a week-long trial concluded with Mohammed being found guilty on two counts of sexual assault.
The court sentenced Mohammed to three years and eight months imprisonment. Additionally, he received an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order and will be placed on the sex offenders' register for life, reflecting the serious nature of his crimes.
Police Response and Community Impact
Detective Constable Tim Friend of the British Transport Police commented on the case, stating: "Aamar Mohammed used his trusted position as a station security guard to prey on a teenage girl and subject her to a deplorable sexual assault. His attack was so forceful that it left the victim with physical injuries, and will no doubt have a lasting impact on her psychologically."
DC Friend further emphasised the importance of the victim's courage: "It is down to her bravery in reporting him to police, and determination to stick with the process as it progressed through the courts, that we have been able to bring a truly vile man to justice. We will stop at nothing to ensure sexual predators like Mohammed are removed from our communities and put behind bars where they belong."
This case highlights critical issues regarding safety at public transport hubs and the responsibility of those in positions of authority. The sentencing serves as a stark reminder that such predatory behaviour will be met with the full force of the law, while also underscoring the importance of victims coming forward to report crimes of this nature.
