A suspect made a dramatic escape attempt by swimming across a canal after crashing a cloned Nissan Qashqai during a police chase in Walsall. West Midlands Police reported that the vehicle had been used in other vehicle thefts prior to the incident.

Officers from the Road Crime Team identified the cloned Nissan Qashqai in Walsall, noting its involvement in previous thefts. The driver attempted to evade capture by speeding away, leading to a pursuit through the area.
Crash and Aquatic Getaway Attempt
The chase ended when the Qashqai crashed, sustaining significant front-end damage. The suspect then abandoned the vehicle and jumped into a nearby canal, swimming across in a bid to escape. However, police quickly apprehended the individual following the swim.

West Midlands Police's traffic unit confirmed the suspect was soon arrested after the canal incident. The team posted images on social media platform X, showcasing the damaged car, the suspect exiting the vehicle, swimming in the water, and finally being handcuffed on the ground.
The accompanying social media post detailed: "Road Crime Team officers saw this cloned Nissan Qashqai in Walsall which had also been used in other vehicle thefts. It made off and was pursued before the driver crashed and decamped but was soon arrested following a swim across a canal."
