Major Police Operation Nets Drugs and Cash in Telford Suburb

Officers from West Mercia Police's specialised crime unit have made a significant arrest following the pursuit of a suspicious vehicle in the Wellington area of Telford. The incident unfolded on Thursday, January 29, when proactive officers identified concerning behaviour from the driver of a red Volkswagen Polo on High Street.

Suspicious Activity Leads to Swift Police Response

Members of the Proactive North Serious Organised Crime and Drugs Team, who were specifically targeting suspected Class A drug dealing in the Telford region, observed the vehicle and deemed the driver's actions suspicious. When officers approached, the driver accelerated away from the scene, initiating a pursuit that concluded minutes later at an address in Maddocks Court, a quiet cul-de-sac within the same suburb.

During the attempted escape, the suspect discarded what police describe as a quantity of Class A drugs along with a burner-style mobile phone. Following the detention of the individual, officers conducted a search of a connected property, where they discovered a substantial cash haul amounting to £13,000.

Arrest and Ongoing Investigation

A 22-year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs. He was taken into police custody for questioning and is assisting officers with their enquiries. The recovered substances have been identified as crack cocaine and heroin.

Detective Sergeant Steve Miller of West Mercia Police commented on the operation's success, stating: "Today, officers from the drugs team targeted suspected Class A drug dealers operating in the Telford area. We located and arrested a man in possession of crack cocaine, heroin, and approximately £13,000 in cash at an address in the town. The harm caused by illegal drugs is well known, and we remain committed to disrupting and pursuing those involved in their supply to help keep Telford safe."

In the wake of this incident, West Mercia Police has reiterated its appeal for community vigilance. A spokesperson urged residents to report any suspected criminal activity through official channels.

Reporting options include:

The spokesperson emphasised that information provided to Crimestoppers remains 100% anonymous, with no requirement to provide personal details and no capability to trace calls or IP addresses.
