Heartbreaking CCTV footage has been released showing the final moments of 12-year-old Leo Ross walking home from school, just before he was tragically stabbed to death in a senseless act of violence. The incident occurred near Scribers Lane in Hall Green on January 21 last year, leaving his family and community devastated.
A Life Cut Short in a Senseless Attack
Leo Ross, a pupil at Christ Church C of E Secondary School, was fatally stabbed in the stomach by a youth he did not know. The attacker, who was aged just 14 at the time, has since admitted to carrying out the murder. The CCTV images depict Leo dressed in his school uniform, with his coat hood up and a backpack on his shoulder, walking along the pavement after finishing school for the day. He then disappears from view and is not seen again alive.

West Midlands Police have described Leo as the "light of his family's life from which they will never recover." Detective Inspector Joe Davenport, who is leading the investigation, provided further insight into Leo's character, stating that he was a lovely boy who was very well thought of by his school. Davenport confirmed that Leo had no records for violence or any kind of behavioural problems, emphasising the profound loss felt by his family.
"His family are understandably devastated by this tragedy. Leo was the light of their life," Davenport told BirminghamLive. "Clearly this has left a massive hole in their life which they will never recover from." The tributes highlight the deep impact of this loss on those who knew and loved him.
Investigation Reveals Killer's Deception and Other Attacks
Additional CCTV footage shows the killer, who cannot be named for legal reasons, dressed all in black on his bike heading to and from the scene. Police bodycam footage also captures the interaction the killer had with officers, where he falsely claimed to have come across Leo's body and raised the alarm. This deception ultimately proved to be his downfall, as police grew suspicious of his account and linked him to the description given in relation to three other attacks.
The teenager has now admitted to carrying out Leo's murder, as well as assaults on three elderly women between January 19 and January 21 of last year. This admission brings a grim closure to a case that has shocked the local community and raised urgent questions about youth violence and safety in the area.
