A man has appeared in court accused of a double murder following a fatal shooting in Wolverhampton last year.
Court Appearance and Charges
Maneer Khan, 38, appeared at Wolverhampton Crown Court via video link from HMP Dovegate on Monday, January 5. He stands accused of the murders of Duaine Mills, 28, and Syed Zain Ali, 32.
The charges relate to a shooting that occurred in the early hours of September 19, 2025, on Leicester Street in Wolverhampton. Both men died from their injuries following the incident.
Khan entered not guilty pleas to two counts of murder. He also denied one count of attempted murder and two firearms offences connected to the same event. Additionally, he pleaded not guilty to a separate fraud charge alleged to have taken place on November 20.
Co-Defendant and Allegations
Appearing alongside Khan was co-defendant Yaseen Patel, 34. Both men only spoke during the hearing to confirm their names, enter their pleas, and confirm they could hear the judge.
Patel, of Bromford Way, Birmingham, denied a single charge of assisting an offender. The court heard allegations that he drove Khan to a HM Passport Office to apply for a passport using a false identity.
Khan, of St Catharine’s Close, Walsall, is alleged to have made a false representation to the Passport Office. He wore a dark blue T-shirt for the hearing, while Patel appeared with an orange sash over a black T-shirt.
Trial Date Set
Judge Michael Chambers KC remanded both men in custody following the hearing. The case will now proceed to a trial, which is scheduled to begin on July 20.
The trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court is expected to last for approximately three weeks.
The deaths of Mr Mills and Mr Ali prompted a major investigation by West Midlands Police, which led to the charges now being brought before the court.
