Details of the Frightening Spree

Baker's criminal activities culminated in his arrest by neighbourhood officers on Chesterton Road on Tuesday, July 8. This followed a robbery at a shop on Prestwood Road just a week earlier, where a staff member was threatened with a knife as goods were taken.

West Midlands Police confirmed that Baker was charged with a range of serious offences, including two robberies, six thefts, two counts of possessing a knife, one attempted robbery, and possession with intent to supply a class A drug.

Court Sentencing and Police Response

At Wolverhampton Crown Court, Baker was sentenced to a total of six years and six months in prison last Monday, March 30. A police spokesperson emphasised the impact of such crimes on local communities, stating that dedicated officers are now focusing on tackling retail crime across the city.

The force has deployed four Business Crime Officers and two Police Community Support Officers in Wolverhampton specifically to investigate retail crimes and target repeat offenders. Additionally, a new Retail Crime Operational Group has been launched this month, meeting monthly with key partners to address the root causes of retail crime and share best practices for problem-solving at targeted premises.

This sentencing highlights ongoing efforts by Wolverhampton police teams to maintain pressure on retail crime, ensuring safer environments for businesses and residents alike.
