Birmingham Travelodge assault: man pleads guilty over vape row

Nathan Stanley, 29, of Windsor Avenue, Leicestershire, has pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm after punching his girlfriend in the face at a Birmingham Travelodge. The incident occurred in October last year during an argument over a vape.

Assault at Travelodge

The court heard that Stanley 'pushed his way in' to the hotel room and 'got in her face' before throwing the punch. The victim was left with a swollen black eye. Police were called after a housekeeper dialled 999 to report a 'commotion and fighting in one of the rooms'. The victim told officers the couple had been arguing about a vape when the assault took place.

Court details

Prosecuting, Ms Butler told Birmingham Magistrates' Court: 'You can clearly see her right eye is very swollen.' She added that 'the swelling was consistent with quite a hard punch to the lady.' The court heard Stanley has learning difficulties, autism and dyspraxia. His defence lawyer said: 'It was an impulsive and short-lived assault.'
