Wedding Magician Angus Baskerville Wins Cotswolds Award, Shares Neurodiversity Journey
Magician Angus Baskerville wins Best Wedding Magician award

A young magician from Warwickshire is celebrating a spellbinding triumph after the public voted him the Best Wedding Magician in this year's prestigious Cotswolds Awards.

From Misunderstood Child to Award-Winning Performer

Angus Baskerville, 29, from Binton, has revealed that his latest accolade is about far more than skilful illusion. It marks a profound personal victory. Growing up feeling he did not belong, Angus faced exclusion from three different schools before receiving diagnoses of Asperger’s and ADHD at the age of 15. He has since described how discovering magic as a teenager essentially "saved his life," providing a focus and purpose during a difficult childhood.

Today, Angus is an acclaimed member of the elite Magic Circle and a published author. He uses his growing platform to demonstrate that unique "hidden powers" exist within everyone on the autism spectrum. His first book, Naughty or Neurodiverse: An Aspie’s Road To Magic, chronicles his path from a misunderstood child to a professional performer.

A Public Vote and a Humbling Honour

Reacting to winning the publicly voted award, Angus shared his gratitude. "To be recognised for what I do in adding magic to weddings, the most special day in a couple’s life, is both humbling and hugely appreciated," he said. He emphasised the significance of the awards being "100% independent," with every nomination and vote coming directly from members of the public.

His magical journey began in his teens and led him to join the Leamington and Warwick Magic Society. His talent has since taken him to perform at elite venues including Windsor Castle, and he regularly performs sell-out shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Dedicated Ambassador for Neurodiversity

Despite a busy performance schedule, Angus remains a dedicated ambassador for neurodiversity. He actively mentors others through workshops and keynote speaking engagements. He passionately believes that with the right understanding and environment, life on the spectrum can be "joyful, meaningful, and full of magic," offering hope to many facing similar challenges.

The Cotswolds Awards were founded by Mette Lacey of Cotswolds Concierge to celebrate the extraordinary people and businesses shaping Warwickshire and the neighbouring counties. Mette praised the winner, stating: "Warwickshire led the way this year with a strong and warmly received wave of nominations. Congratulations to Angus for this well-deserved award and for helping to fly the flag for Warwickshire."

The award follows closely on the launch of Angus's book, cementing a remarkable period of recognition for the magician who continues to inspire both on and off the stage.
