Tesco Introduces £10 Fuel Cashback Cap for Barclays Customers
Tesco Fuel Cashback Cap: Barclays Customers Get 5% Back

Tesco, the UK's largest supermarket, is implementing a new £10 rule across its petrol stations following a partnership with Barclays. Starting Friday, May 1, Barclays customers can earn 5% cashback on fuel purchases between £5 and £200 when using an eligible personal Barclays debit card at Tesco fuel stations. However, the cashback is capped at £10 per calendar month per customer.

Details of the Offer

The offer comes as Tesco faces competition from rivals such as Sainsbury's, Morrisons, Lidl, Aldi, and Asda. The Strait of Hormuz remains closed, impacting fuel costs. Vim Maru, Chief Executive of Barclays UK, stated: "Our cashback offers are designed to provide practical support by helping customers save on the things they spend on most. Through our partnership with Tesco, we’re able to offer savings on fuel at a time when costs are rising, helping customers make their money go that bit further." He added that this offer complements the £200 switcher deal for new Barclays Current Account customers.

Tesco's Commitment to Value

Ashwin Prasad, Tesco UK CEO, commented: "At Tesco we are always looking at how we can deliver great value for our customers, and the extra ways we can help them make savings. Thanks to our partnership with Barclays, Tesco shoppers across the country will now be able to get cashback when they fill up their tank at Tesco using their Barclays debit card."

Humanitarian Concerns

The announcement coincides with rising transportation costs due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Aid organizations are urging the establishment of a "humanitarian corridor" through the strait. Bob Kitchen, vice president for emergencies at the International Rescue Committee (IRC), called for "serious and immediate conversations about humanitarian corridors through the strait of Hormuz so, at the very least, we can get supplies that are currently stuck in humanitarian hubs through the strait to resupply." Cecile Terraz, director at the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, noted: "The reality here is that it’s 100% sure that the increase of oil price is affecting the lives of people and also our operations."
