Bodycam Footage Captures Father's Account of Daughter's Fatal Shooting in Texas

Bodycam footage has revealed the moment a father described to police how he fatally shot his daughter during a holiday visit in Texas. Lucy Harrison, a 24-year-old from Warrington, was killed at her father's home in Prosper, Texas, on January 10, 2025, while visiting with her boyfriend Sam Littler.

Inquest Verdict and Coroner's Findings

A coroner has ruled Lucy's death as an unlawful killing due to gross negligence manslaughter. Senior coroner Jacqueline Devonish delivered the verdict at Cheshire Coroner's Court in Warrington on February 10, 2026, dismissing the father's account of the incident.

Lucy and Sam had flown from Heathrow to visit her father's American home on December 28, 2024, after purchasing their first home together in Warrington and celebrating Christmas there. The tragedy occurred shortly before they were due to be driven to the airport.

Father's Testimony and Disputed Account

In the bodycam footage shown in court, Kris Harrison told Prosper Police Department officer Aulden Baker that he and Lucy were discussing guns when she asked about his firearm. He claimed the 9mm semi-automatic Glock handgun, bought from a colleague two years earlier, discharged as he picked it up from a case under books in his bedside cabinet.

However, Coroner Devonish stated she did not accept this version, citing the room layout and Lucy's body position. She concluded that to shoot Lucy through the chest while she was standing, Harrison would have had to point the gun at her without checking for bullets and pull the trigger, calling this action reckless.

Alcohol Consumption and Family Statements

The inquest heard that Harrison, described as a functioning alcoholic, had been drinking continuously on the day of the shooting. He initially told officers he drank the previous day but later admitted to drinking that morning, including before going to a 7-Eleven under the pretense of collecting cookies.

Despite the coroner's ruling, no charges were brought against Harrison after a grand jury reviewed the evidence in June 2025. Lucy's mother, Jane Coates, accompanied by Sam and friend Ella Gowing, expressed disappointment in the US investigation, stating it lacked the rigor expected in the UK and that Texas gun laws failed Lucy.

Testimonies revealed Lucy was anti-guns and opposed to bearing arms, contradicting her father's claim that she asked to see the firearm. The family thanked first responders and the community for their support during this difficult time.
