Child rapist aided by wife jailed for 17 years

A child rapist from the West Midlands will likely die in prison after subjecting his victims to years of sexual abuse. Stephen Lloyd, 67, of Winchester Avenue, Nuneaton, has been locked up for 17 years. His evil crimes, some aided by his wife June Lloyd, were brought to light after a girl sexually abused by Lloyd confided with detectives in 2022. This led to other brave victims coming forward with similar stories of abuse.

By 2024, three women had reached out to officers to say they were abused by Lloyd when they were children. Lloyd was found unanimously guilty of 12 offences, including two counts of raping a girl under 16 which took place between July 1991 and July 1993. He was also convicted for offences which happened between September 2009 and August 2022. Those were: three offences of engaged in penetrative sexual activity with a girl under 13, four offences of engaging in non-penetrative sexual activity with a girl 13-15, one offence of causing or inciting a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity, and two offences of sexually assaulting a girl under 13 by touching.

Lloyd's wife, June, was also sentenced to time behind bars for wilfully exposing two young girls to sexual abuse by her husband. The 63-year-old, also of Winchester Avenue, Nuneaton, was sentenced to 30 months in prison for two counts of causing assault, ill treatment, neglect, or abandonment of a child to cause unnecessary suffering or injury between September 2009 and August 2015, and between September 2020 and August 2022. The pair were both sentenced on April 27.

Investigating officer DC Jade Badhams, of Warwickshire Police, said: 'After four years of tireless investigation and the incredible bravery of three women, we have a conviction putting a close to 35 years of rape and other sexual offences. We cannot remove the trauma. But we can say that we have found justice for the victims, and we have held Stephen Lloyd accountable for his actions, removing him from the public for what will likely be the rest of his life.'
