Ruth Langsford Admits 'Devastating' Split from Eamonn Holmes Was a 'Huge Shock'

TV personality Ruth Langsford has candidly discussed her painful divorce from Eamonn Holmes, revealing that the split came as a 'huge shock' and left her feeling 'broken'. The 65-year-old Loose Women star confessed she struggled to comprehend the end of their 14-year marriage, which blindsided her without warning.

A Sudden and Painful Separation

According to Ruth, the Northern Irish broadcaster, 66, abruptly ended their 27-year relationship, leaving her questioning everything that led to his decision. The couple, who share a 23-year-old son named Jack, were known for co-presenting This Morning for 15 years, making their split all the more public and painful.

In an interview with the Daily Mail’s Weekend magazine, Ruth said: 'I had a very happy marriage. Of course you question yourself, ‘did I miss something, was I not aware, was I too busy?’ But there’s no point playing the blame game. I just didn’t think I’d find myself here, and I wasn’t strong at the start. I was broken. Broken heart. Broken dreams.'

Overcoming Heartbreak and Moving Forward

Ruth admitted she had to give herself a 'good talking to' to avoid catastrophising about her future. She reflected: 'I was literally asking, ‘What’s going to become of me?’, like some sad, lonely woman in a Jane Austen novel. But then age and experience told me, ‘Ruth, you’re not going to die from this. I mean you are going to die, one day, but you’re not going to die from divorce‘.'

To cope, she refocused on work, dedicated time to her son Jack, and embraced hobbies like cooking, gardening, and travelling. These experiences are detailed in her upcoming memoir, Feeling Fabulous, set for release next week.

Life After the Split

While Ruth remains officially single, Eamonn has moved on with dating counsellor Katie Alexander, who is 23 years younger. Reports indicate he has purchased a new property in Holywood, Northern Ireland, to spend quality time with Katie, aiming to build a home without past memories.

Now, Ruth feels strong and hopeful, embracing her newfound freedom and resilience. The split, though devastating, has led her to a path of self-discovery and empowerment.
