A volunteer at Beaumaris lifeboat station recently attended a garden party at Buckingham Palace hosted by the King and Queen, supported by other members of the Royal Family, to commemorate his 54 years of volunteering with the lifeboat.
Decades of Dedication
Gareth Parry, in his years of service, originally served as a crew member and emergency mechanic on the All-Weather Lifeboat, which was withdrawn from service in 1991. He later became a helm on the Blue Peter Two Inshore Lifeboats, being one of the earliest lifeboat men to receive a Gold Blue Peter badge. Currently, he serves as a launching authority at the station.
Bravery and Recognition
Throughout his time with the RNLI, Parry has received two bravery awards and has been an RNLI standard bearer for more than 40 years. He has displayed the standard on many occasions, including at St David's Hall in Cardiff for a Remembrance Day service, where he represented all the Welsh stations.
Proudest Memory
One of his proudest memories is carrying the Queen Mother's Lifeboat Standard in a Remembrance Day service at the Albert Hall in London in front of Her late Majesty the Queen, when he represented all the UK stations. This honor highlights his exceptional commitment and service to the lifeboat community.
