Farleigh Hospice Walk for Life Returns to Essex

Hundreds of walkers will enjoy the Essex countryside as Farleigh Hospice's popular Walk for Life returns. This family-friendly sponsored walk takes place on Sunday, May 10, along the scenic Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation towpath, offering two routes.

Walk Routes and Details

The 12km walk starts at Paper Mill Lock in Little Baddow, while the 24km route begins at Heybridge Basin. Both finish at Teledyne e2v offices in Waterhouse Lane, Chelmsford. Now in its 27th year, Walk for Life is a vital fundraiser for Farleigh Hospice.

Personal Story: Rebecca Howes

Rebecca Howes, 36, will walk 24km in memory of her father, Kenny Sloan, who received care from Farleigh. She said, "I don't know what my family would have done without Farleigh's care. They helped with medication, a hospital bed, and personal care, allowing Dad to stay at home. He spent his last days looking out onto his garden. Dad died on May 15 last year, and Walk for Life is the day after his birthday, so it will be emotional. I want to push myself and raise sponsorship to thank Farleigh."

Fundraising Impact

Sarah Millerick, Fundraising Lead, said, "Thank you to Rebecca and all walkers. We're delighted by the community support. Walk for Life is important for funding our care and a great way to see the countryside."

Registration and Fees

Sign-up costs £20 for adults and £5 for under 16s before 4pm on May 6. On-the-day registration is available at Heybridge Basin or Paper Mill Lock at higher prices. Participants receive a t-shirt and finisher's medal.
