New Litter Picking Hub Opens in Aberystwyth to Tackle Waste
New Litter Picking Hub Opens in Aberystwyth

A brand-new Litter Picking Hub has opened in Aberystwyth, providing local residents, community groups, and businesses with free access to equipment to help keep the area clean and tidy.

Hub Location and Services

Aberoutdoors, based at the local marina, already offers paddleboard and kayak rentals, drop-in safety advice, and guided coastal tours. Now, the business has become an official Litter Picking Hub, enabling people to take practical action to care for their environment. The hub aims to inspire pride in surroundings while supporting physical and mental well-being through outdoor activity.

Community Clean-Up Success

Before the official opening, Aberoutdoors organised community clean-up events involving exchange students from Aberystwyth University, university societies, and local residents. Volunteers collected over 50 bags of litter, removed large amounts of scrap metal from rivers and hedgerows, and helped tackle fly-tipping issues.

Quotes from Organisers

Jack Potts-Edwards, Aberoutdoors Owner, said: "Since working with Keep Wales Tidy, we have felt inspired by their commitment to keeping our home free of litter. Aberystwyth deserves more stewardship from its council and residents. I hope this hub will re-ignite community civic spirit and bring forward change."

Richard Thomas, Keep Wales Tidy Project Officer for Ceredigion, said: "Litter Picking Hubs are a fantastic way to bring communities together and empower people to take positive action. Every bag of litter collected makes a difference, and we hope this new hub encourages even more people to get involved."

Equipment and Network

The hub offers free access to litter picking equipment, including pickers, hi-vis vests, rubbish bags, and hoops to keep bags open on windy days. It is part of a nationwide network supported by Keep Wales Tidy and funded by the Welsh Government.
