Warwickshire Christmas Gift Appeal: Bring Joy to Children in Need
Warwickshire Christmas Gift Appeal for Children

Warwickshire Community Unites for Annual Christmas Gift Appeal

The spirit of Christmas is being kindled across Warwickshire as the county launches its annual gift appeal, calling on residents and local businesses to help ensure every child and young person experiences the joy of the festive season. This heartwarming initiative, which has seen incredible generosity from the public and council staff over the years, aims to provide a little burst of happiness on Christmas day to families facing hardship and to youngsters with experience of the care system.

How and Where to Donate Your Gifts

Organisers have made it simple for people to contribute. New and unwrapped gifts, suitable for ages 0 to 18, can be dropped off at three convenient locations before the deadlines. The donation points are:

  • Market Hall Museum in Warwick – donations accepted until Saturday, November 29.
  • Eliot Park Innovation Centre in Nuneaton – donations accepted until Monday, December 1.
  • Kenilworth Library and Information Centre – donations accepted until Monday, December 1.

For those considering larger joint or corporate donations, the appeal team is ready to assist with arrangements and can be contacted directly at childfriendly@warwickshire.gov.uk.

Gift Ideas to Spark a Smile

Unsure what to donate? The appeal has provided a helpful guide to suitable presents for different age groups. For the youngest children aged 0-3, consider soft toys, dolls, or bath toys. Those aged 3-5 might appreciate action figures, story books, or arts and crafts sets.

For children between 5 and 9, board games, books, and hair accessories are excellent choices. The 9-12 age group would welcome games, clothing items like gloves and scarves, and puzzles. Teenagers and care leavers up to age 25 often appreciate gift vouchers, books, toiletries, make-up, or perfume.

Donations of festive items such as boxes of chocolates, selection boxes, wrapping paper, and gift bags are also more than welcome at all drop-off locations.

A Community Effort Making a Real Difference

Last year's appeal was a resounding success, with over 250 gifts donated by a wide range of local supporters. These included Pertemps Recruitment Agency, McDonalds Warwick, Lions Club, Tesco Warwick, Biffa Warwick depot, Stratford Upon Avon RFC, Acorn’s Children’s Clubs, and many dedicated Warwickshire County Council staff.

Councillor George Finch, Leader and Portfolio Holder for Children and Families, emphasised the profound impact of these contributions. "For many children supported by our local services, Christmas can be a time without gifts or celebration," he said. "But together, we can change that. This year, even a small gesture - a boxed, unused gift - can make a big difference. Let’s come together once again to create a child-friendly Christmas for those who need it most."

This gift appeal is a key part of the broader Child Friendly Warwickshire programme, which strives to make the county the best place for children to grow up. The initiative focuses on listening to young people, keeping them safe and healthy, and equipping them with skills for the future. With more than 195 businesses and organisations already signed up as 'friends', the programme demonstrates a powerful county-wide commitment to helping every child flourish, regardless of their background.
