A Bollywood film crew will take over the Jewellery Quarter for eight days in June, bringing 'action packed stunt sequences' to the area. Several key roads in Birmingham city centre will be closed during the shoot of a new Bollywood feature, currently referred to as 'Project 79'. Filming is scheduled between June 18 and June 25.
Affected Roads
The roads likely to be affected across the filming period include Vyse Street, Hylton Street, Branston Street, Hockley Street, and Spencer Street. Not all roads will be closed simultaneously, but disruptions are expected throughout the eight-day period.
Community Engagement
Film production company LS Productions has met with residents and local businesses to discuss the plans. A letter delivered to residents stated: 'We're currently producing a Bollywood feature film for Yash Raj Productions, which we're delighted to be bringing to Birmingham for filming across May, June, and July. Birmingham offers a fantastic range of locations and we're very keen to showcase the area on screen.'
The letter further explained that the road closures between June 18 and 25 will include preparation, filming, and reinstatement. During this time, access to buildings and car parks will be carefully managed, with pedestrian access maintained to all premises and vehicle access to private car parks or garages.
Economic Benefits
LS Productions highlighted that filming can bring 'a great deal of positive attention and economic benefit to an area'. The letter added: 'We would love the opportunity to work together to create something exciting while showcasing one of the most distinctive parts of Birmingham. You can expect full Bollywood dance routines and action packed stunt sequences brought to life in the JQ.'
