MAFS Australia's Scott and Gia Reveal Real Reason for Walkout in Unseen Footage
Married At First Sight Australia's Scott McCristal and Gia Fleur have disclosed the true motive behind their dramatic exit during Feedback Week in previously unseen diary cam footage. The couple, known for their tumultuous journey on the reality show, decided to leave the experiment early, citing overwhelming pressure and mental health concerns.
The Build-Up to the Walkout
Feedback Week began on a sour note when Gia refused to complete a task with fellow participant Danny Hewitt. Tensions escalated further upon receiving an anonymous feedback letter from Stella Mickunaite and Filip Gregov, which suggested Gia should quit all group chats and embrace celibacy to focus on her connection with Scott. While Scott was open to considering the feedback, Gia found it so outrageous that she ripped the letter apart. Hours later, she made the decision to leave the show.
In true dramatic fashion, the couple documented their exit in diary cam footage, now obtained by New Day, revealing the real reason behind their swift departure. Gia explained, "We're leaving the experiment early. We have a week to go, but we can’t do it anymore. We’re struggling, so we are packing all our stuff, and we’re going to tell them that we’re leaving this morning."
Mental Health Pressures Take Center Stage
When Gia panned the camera to Scott and asked why they were leaving, he responded, "It's just too much freakin pressure. Mental health. Yeah we just don't need to be here anymore." Gia added that production would likely try to convince them to stay, but they were resolute. She shared, "I can’t do it anymore, to be honest. I’ve been breaking down; it’s been too much. We’ve been here so long, and the pressure is starting to ruin our relationship because they’re pushing us so hard." The video concluded with Gia bidding farewell to their apartment, stating, "we will never see you again."
Alleged Leaked Messages Tell a Different Story
Despite presenting a united front in the footage, alleged leaked text messages between Scott and Gia suggest a more complicated narrative. In these unconfirmed messages, Gia reportedly expressed experiencing recurring panic attacks and feeling physically and mentally exhausted. One text read, "I wish you cared more about me and wanted to protect me and leave with me without me having to beg." Scott countered that he had protected her the whole time and simply wanted to "sit the last couple days out" with her. Gia retorted, "It isn’t hard for YOU it is for me! As my partner who agreed with me last night, all this shows is that you’ve been manipulated or you never cared about me, only the show."
Reactions from Fellow Participants
Fellow groom Sam Stanton weighed in during an interview with Today, commenting on the couple's exit. He said, "The drama just follows Gia and she follows it, right? And them exiting, I mean it's pretty obvious that they'll come back, right? Like, Gia does love the limelight." Sam also noted that Scott "really doesn’t have a voice," a sentiment they had discussed off-camera, sharing similar experiences with their partners.
This revelation adds another layer to the ongoing saga of MAFS Australia, highlighting the intense pressures faced by participants in reality television. The unseen footage provides a raw look at the emotional toll of the experiment, underscoring the importance of mental health considerations in such high-stress environments.
