A new shop has opened next to McDonald's on the ramp in Birmingham, years after Greggs closed its doors. Tech and Puff has moved into the old bakery unit on Stephenson Place, near the entrance to Grand Central.
What Tech and Puff Offers
According to signage, the shop repairs and sells phones, mobile phone accessories, and electronic cigarettes. It has been open for a week, and early Google reviews have been complimentary, with visitors noting fast iPhone screen repairs while shopping and 'excellent service' from staff.
Greggs' Closure and New Location
Greggs kept its doors locked following Covid lockdowns. The bakery has since opened a giant new branch down in New Street station.
Other Developments on the Ramp
Things haven't been all smooth on the ramp. Earlier this year, a fire caused the closure of the large HSBC branch on the corner of Stephenson Place and New Street, and it has yet to reopen. BirminghamLive understands that repair works are underway, and HSBC still plans to return, with an exact date to be announced.
Further up the ramp, when we visited this week, one of the windows of McDonald's is currently smashed, as is a panel of glass opposite, facing Stephenson Street.
Positive Impact
The addition of a new brand like Tech and Puff has brought more light to the top half of the strip of shops.
Inside Grand Central
Meanwhile, inside Grand Central, a new brand has set its sights on an empty shop close to Link Street. We'll bring you more on that as we get it.
