Young Essex Star Shines in Annie Musical Production
A talented nine-year-old from Essex is gearing up for a featured role in a new musical at one of the county's cherished theatres. Imina, currently in Year 5 at Oakfields Preparatory School in Upminster, has secured a part in a full-scale production of Annie by RARE Productions.
Performance Details and Role
The show is scheduled to take place at the Thameside Theatre in Grays on May 1 and 2, where Imina is expected to perform in front of audiences of approximately 300 people each night. Annie is a beloved musical set in 1930s New York, narrating the story of a young orphan girl and life in a strict orphanage. Imina will portray Tessie, one of the main orphans.
In this role, she will deliver solo lines, participate in group scenes, and perform in musical numbers, including famous songs such as 'Tomorrow' and 'It's the Hard-Knock Life'.
Audition Process and Rehearsals
Imina auditioned for the part alongside dozens of other children and teenagers, demonstrating her dedication and skill. She has undergone 35 hours of rehearsals spread across 11 weeks, balancing this commitment with her school work.
Reflecting on her experience, Imina said: "I'm really excited to be performing in my first theatre production. I've been practising really hard with the other actors and at home, and I'm really looking forward to getting on stage."
Passion for Performing Arts
She added: "I love acting and singing. I'm working towards my singing exams, and I also play the piano and violin, which I really enjoy. I'd love to do acting and singing when I'm older."
Oakfields Preparatory School, part of Blenheim Schools, has played a key role in nurturing Imina's performing arts skillset. The school expressed pride in her achievement, highlighting her growth and dedication.
School Support and Encouragement
Matthew Booth, Headteacher at Oakfields Preparatory School, commented: "We encourage our pupils to push themselves by carrying on their learning beyond the school walls, and Imina is a brilliant example of this. She has shown great confidence in taking her curiosity and creativity that she shows in the classroom out into a new environment. It's absolutely fantastic to see her being given the chance to demonstrate her talents on a bigger stage."
This production marks a significant milestone for Imina, showcasing her potential in the performing arts and inspiring others in the community.
