Betting Suspended as Rylan Clark Emerges as Frontrunner for Strictly Come Dancing Hosting Role
Speculation surrounding the new presenters for Strictly Come Dancing has reached fever pitch after bookmakers suspended betting on one clear favourite. The move comes following Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly's announcement that they would be stepping down from their long-standing roles on the BBC's flagship dance competition.
Rylan Clark Becomes Overwhelming Favourite
Ladbrokes has ceased accepting bets on Rylan Clark securing the coveted presenting position after being inundated with wagers. The 37-year-old television personality's odds tumbled dramatically from 4-1 to 1-2, indicating he is now considered an almost certain replacement.
A spokesperson for the bookmaker revealed they had been "knocked over with bets" on Clark landing the Strictly role. The former X Factor contestant has been described as having a "dream job" in presenting the show and is believed to be among the leading choices with audiences.
Angela Scanlon Tipped as Co-Presenter
In a significant development, The One Show and Your Home Made Perfect host Angela Scanlon has emerged as the favourite to partner Clark as co-presenter. The 42-year-old has received substantial backing from punters following what bookmakers described as a "significant run of support."
Nicola McGeady of Ladbrokes commented: "The rumour-mill has gone into overdrive with suggestions Rylan Clark will be the next Strictly host. We were knocked over with bets on the former X Factor contestant landing the job and were forced to pull the plug on the market. Interestingly, the money also strongly suggests that Angela Scanlon could be joining him as part of a new-look team."
Strong Broadcasting Credentials
Both potential presenters bring considerable live broadcasting experience to the table:
- Rylan Clark previously presented Strictly's companion show It Takes Two between 2019 and 2023
- He has hosted programmes on Radio 2 and been involved with BBC's Eurovision coverage
- Angela Scanlon has her own programmes on Virgin Radio and Radio 2
- She regularly presents The One Show and competed as a contestant on Strictly in 2023
A source told the Daily Mail: "Rylan has a long-standing association with the show, and Angela has been a contestant. The main thing is they'd be a totally new pairing – no baggage, no former shows, uniquely Strictly. On top of that, they want to be sure that an all-female presenting line-up isn't replaced by an old-fashioned male-female duo where the man takes on a dominant role."

The presenter speculation comes during a period of significant changes for the BBC programme. Recent weeks have seen reports that professional dancer Michelle Tsiakkas, who previously partnered with former EastEnders star Jamie Borthwick, has been dropped by bosses and subsequently withdrew from the upcoming professional tour.
Long-serving professional Gorka Marquez, who proposed to former Hollyoaks actress Gemma Atkinson after they met on the show, is also rumoured to have been dismissed, along with Luba Mushtuk, Karen Hauer and Nadiya Bychkova. The BBC has not yet confirmed the final line-up of professional dancers for the upcoming series.
