Two Walsall primary schools have achieved exceptional Ofsted ratings despite being located in one of the country's worst areas for child poverty. Goldsmith Primary Academy and Reedswood E-ACT Academy are the only West Midlands primaries to receive new 'exceptional' ratings since the inspection system launched this year.
Remarkable Success Against the Odds
The schools' success is remarkable given that 42% of children in the Walsall and Bloxwich constituency live in poverty. This represents the joint-10th highest level in the country. Despite these challenges, both schools have been recognised for their outstanding performance.
Goldsmith Primary Academy
Goldsmith was rated exceptional for inclusion, leadership and governance, and personal development. Ofsted said: "The school creates an exceptional culture of inclusion that transforms pupils' experiences and outcomes." The inspection highlighted how the school fosters an environment where every student can thrive.
Reedswood E-ACT Academy
Reedswood received exceptional ratings for achievement, leadership and governance, and personal development. Pupils' exam results are "significantly higher than average." Inspectors praised Reedswood's leadership, stating: "Whatever their starting points, pupils at this school make remarkable progress."
The achievements show how both schools are punching above their weight despite the challenges their pupils face. Their success serves as an inspiration for other schools in disadvantaged areas.
