Wilder Wellbeing Sessions Return to Northumberlandia for Spring and Summer

Northumberland Wildlife Trust is extending an invitation to members of the public aged 18 and above to participate in its highly successful Wilder Wellbeing sessions at Northumberlandia. This initiative, a partnership between Northumberland Recovery College and Northumberland Wildlife Trust, is coordinated by Everyturn Mental Health and made possible through generous funding from The Legal and General Health Equity Fund.

Session Details and Schedule

Starting on Wednesday, March 18, and continuing until October, the free sessions will be held at Northumberlandia every third Wednesday from 11am to 2pm. The primary goal of these gatherings is to enhance wellbeing and personal resilience by engaging participants in learning green skills together, fostering empowerment, and strengthening connections with the natural environment.

Activities and Green Skills Development

Throughout the spring and summer months, attendees will have the opportunity to acquire practical green skills and participate in simple reserve maintenance tasks. These include:

  • Building or maintaining dead hedges
  • Weeding and pruning
  • Basic planting techniques
  • Wildlife gardening
  • Constructing bird and hedgehog boxes

In addition to these hands-on activities, the project incorporates arts and crafts, with sessions featuring:

  • Printing using botanicals
  • Clay and pottery work
  • Willow weaving

All sessions are completely free of charge, making them accessible to a wide audience.

Testimonial from Nature and Wellbeing Officer

Jo Burke, Northumberland Wildlife Trust’s nature and wellbeing officer, expressed enthusiasm about the program's return: "We ran these sessions last year and they were so popular we are running them again thanks to generous funding from The Legal and General Health Equity Fund. The natural world is so important for both our mental and physical health so, needless to say, I am really looking forward to seeing everybody’s love for nature blossom and grow."
