Amy Dowden's emotional cancer milestone after surgery

Strictly Come Dancing professional Amy Dowden has moved her followers with an emotional update on her ongoing cancer journey, just days after undergoing a second mastectomy.

An Emotional Anniversary

The 35-year-old dancer took to her Instagram stories to share a deeply poignant moment, posting footage of herself from two years ago ringing the hospital bell, a powerful symbol marking the end of her initial cancer treatment and her cancer-free status at that time. In the emotional clip, which showed Amy in tears, she simply captioned it, "Two years ago today."

This heartfelt post comes shortly after she disclosed that she was having another mastectomy, a procedure that has unfortunately ruled her out of participating in any of this year's Strictly Come Dancing live shows.

Recovery and Overwhelming Support

On Saturday evening, Amy was flooded with love and encouragement as she shared a post-operative update from home. She posted a picture of herself relaxing on the sofa with a cup of tea, surrounded by family.

"Home, resting up, still got my drain in but rrrrrready for the best entertainment and medicine there is for me..... @bbcstrictly good luck everyone," she wrote, showing her unwavering support for her colleagues. She added, "Cheering you all on from home! Lots of luck and love xxxxx."

The support was immediate and heartfelt. Strictly presenter Claudia Winkleman was amongst the first to respond, posting a string of red heart emojis. Fellow dancers Joanne Clifton and Karen Carney also shared their love, with Carney commenting, "Sending so much love."

A Journey of Resilience

Amy Dowden's cancer journey began when she received her diagnosis in May 2023, after discovering a lump in her breast during her honeymoon with husband Ben Jones. Since then, she has been remarkably open with her supporters, regularly sharing updates about her experience.

Fans were quick to offer their own messages of support on her latest post. One supporter wrote, "Have a lovely and restful evening," while another posted, "Sending love and healing hugs your way, Amy." A third admirer chimed in, calling her "The strongest person! ! Hope you have a speedy recovery, gorgeous girl! ! sending so much love."

Through her public and courageous sharing, Amy continues to be an inspiration, highlighting the realities of a cancer battle while celebrating the significant milestones along the way.
