Patients receiving chemotherapy treatment at two major West Wales hospitals have been gifted specially curated wellness boxes, thanks to generous funding from the Co-op Local Community Fund. The initiative has been made possible through grants awarded by Co-op stores in Llanelli and Cardigan, bringing practical comfort to those undergoing challenging cancer treatments.
Targeted Support for Chemotherapy Patients
The funding has enabled Hywel Dda Health Charities, which serves as the official charity of Hywel Dda University Health Board, to purchase seventy-five wellness boxes for each of the chemotherapy day units at Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth and Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli. These thoughtfully assembled packages contain items specifically chosen by nursing staff to support both mental and physical well-being during and after treatment cycles.
Contents Designed for Comfort
Each wellness box includes practical items selected to address common side effects experienced by chemotherapy patients. The carefully curated contents feature:
- Warm beanie hats, bandanas, and caps to provide comfort and dignity for those experiencing hair loss
- Nourishing hand and body creams to soothe sensitive skin affected by treatments
- Cozy socks and gloves to help manage cold sensitivity caused by certain chemotherapy drugs
These items aim to ease some of the inevitable physical challenges that accompany chemotherapy while providing emotional comfort during what can be an exceptionally difficult period for patients and their families.
