Television presenter Davina McCall has publicly shared a significant health update, revealing she has been diagnosed with breast cancer. The 58-year-old disclosed the news in a heartfelt social media video, explaining the cancer was detected at a very early stage.
Discovery and Diagnosis
McCall discovered the lump in her breast while on the set of ITV's The Masked Singer. She was prompted to perform a self-check after seeing a sign in the toilets at the Lorraine studios. "I found a lump a few weeks ago and it came and went," she told her followers. "One morning I saw it in the mirror and I thought, 'I'm going to get that looked at.'"
Following this discovery, she underwent a biopsy which confirmed the presence of breast cancer. McCall then had a lumpectomy nearly three weeks ago to remove the cancerous tissue. She shared the positive news that the margins were clear, meaning all the cancer was successfully removed, and it had not spread to her lymph nodes.
Treatment and Recovery
Emphasising her luck, McCall stated the cancer was "very, very small" and was caught "very, very early." Her treatment plan now involves a preventative measure of five days of radiotherapy in January, which she described as an "insurance policy."
She expressed immense gratitude to the staff at the Royal Marsden hospital where she received her treatment, as well as her "brilliant kids." A special thanks was extended to her partner, Michael, acknowledging that "it's been a lot." McCall admitted to feeling anger upon her diagnosis but said she has since let that go and is now in a "much more positive place."
A Message of Awareness
The TV star used her platform to issue a crucial public health message. "Get checked if you're worried, check yourself regularly," she urged. She also highlighted the importance of mammograms, revealing that despite having dense breasts and a clear mammogram in August, the lump was still found through self-examination.
This health scare comes after the former Big Brother host underwent surgery in November 2024 to remove a benign colloid cyst from her brain, which was discovered during a health check-up related to her menopause advocacy work.
