Wolverhampton mum dies after severe headaches

Lisa Oakden, a 31-year-old mother from Penkridge, Wolverhampton, passed away on June 17 after an 18-month battle with stage four breast cancer. Her death came as a 'complete shock' to her family, as she had been feeling well just days before.

Diagnosis and treatment

Lisa was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer, which spread to her liver, spine, hip, thyroid, and eventually her brain. She underwent six months of aggressive chemotherapy, followed by oral chemotherapy. She also had surgery on her thyroid and radiotherapy when the cancer reached her hip.

When she developed severe headaches, scans revealed four tumours on her brain. Her treatment plan included 10 radiotherapy sessions, followed by chemotherapy every three weeks for the rest of her life. However, she only completed two radiotherapy sessions before her condition deteriorated.

Family tribute

Her sister-in-law, Nicol Hudson, said: 'Despite everything she faced, Lisa continued to live life to the fullest. She created precious memories with her family through holidays, days out, and special moments together. She continued to play football, one of her greatest passions, and remained positive and courageous throughout her illness.'

Nicol described Lisa as a 'devoted mother, loving daughter, caring sister and partner, and a wonderful friend' who 'had an energy that lit up every room, a sense of humour that could make anyone laugh, and a heart full of love.' Lisa leaves behind her three-year-old son, Phoenix-Rome.

Fundraising for funeral

Nicol launched a GoFundMe page to give Lisa 'the send off she truly deserves', with leftover funds supporting Phoenix-Rome and his father, Leon. As of July 5, more than £5,600 has been raised towards the £6,500 target.
