The Forget-me-not Chorus (FMNC) has been awarded a significant funding boost from Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board and CVSC to launch in-person singing sessions tailored for individuals living with dementia and their caregivers in two care homes located in Conwy this spring. This initiative is part of the broader Winter Wellbeing fund, which was established last year through a collaborative effort between Betsi Cadwaladr and CVSC. The fund's primary objective is to enhance the provision, availability, and accessibility of wellbeing activities, preventative support, and resources that positively impact communities across North Wales.
Empowering Communities Through Song
Since its inception, the Forget-me-not Chorus has harnessed the transformative power of shared song to connect with thousands of people affected by dementia. The inclusive singing sessions are designed to support not only those diagnosed with dementia but also their carers, fostering a sense of unity and shared experience that transcends the daily caregiving routines. By bringing staff and residents together in a harmonious environment, these sessions aim to create moments of joy and connection that enrich the lives of all participants.
Expert Leadership and Musical Excellence
The care home sessions in Conwy will be expertly led by North Wales soprano Canna Roberts, accompanied by pianist Ann Peters Jones. Their musical expertise ensures that each session is both engaging and therapeutic, providing a high-quality experience for attendees. Katherine Harri, the director of development and communications at FMNC, expressed her enthusiasm for the project, stating: "We believe passionately in the power of song to build community and bring joy. We are grateful to Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board and CVSC for their support through the Winter Wellbeing fund. This award allows us to continue using the 'Forget-me-not Way' to provide a 'spa for the soul' for those living with and alongside dementia in two Conwy care homes. Diolch o galon."
Strengthening Wellbeing and Community Bonds
Elgan Owen, chief officer at CVSC, highlighted the importance of this initiative, adding: "CVSC is delighted to support Forget-me-not Chorus through the Winter Wellbeing fund. Singing together creates moments of connection, joy, and shared understanding, and these sessions offer a meaningful space for residents, staff, and families to come together beyond everyday routines. We are proud to be working alongside Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board to enable Forget-me-not Chorus to strengthen wellbeing and community connection within Conwy care homes and across North Wales."
This funding represents a crucial step in expanding dementia care support through creative and therapeutic means, reinforcing the vital role of community-based initiatives in enhancing mental and emotional health for vulnerable populations.
