Personal Reflections from Long-Serving Staff
Angelo Roura, who serves as assistant manager at the Bay Tree Day Care Centre, shared his thoughts following the celebrations. "Time really does fly," he remarked. "I started working with MHA in 2010 and I have genuinely enjoyed my time here. There are so many memories, both good and challenging, that I will treasure and cherish as part of my career journey."
He continued, "These experiences have fundamentally shaped the person I am today. Working at MHA is truly special, and I can confidently say that I have become knowledgeable and assured in my role because of these experiences, including the struggles and challenges that come with care work."
Roura emphasised the rewarding nature of the work, noting, "It's incredibly fulfilling. I have learned so much while working across different MHA locations and schemes throughout Yorkshire. There were moments when I considered moving to a different company or returning to the NHS to pursue my nursing career, but the people I work with and the joy and opportunities that MHA has brought into my life kept me here."
A Workplace That Feels Like Family
"Here at MHA Moor Allerton, we are like one big family," Roura explained. "I have remained here not primarily for financial reasons, but because of the profound meaning our work brings to our lives – joy, happiness, love, comfort, and mutual support. Our residents and clients are absolutely lovely; they feel like grandparents to me. They are adorable and consistently express gratitude and appreciation for what we do for them."
He added, "Personally, I consider MHA to be an excellent place and company to work with. I believe that here, you receive the necessary help and support to achieve your goals, provided you demonstrate dedication and willingness. MHA supported me in reaching my own objectives, and two years ago I successfully completed my MSc master's degree in advanced dementia studies."
Roura concluded with heartfelt advice, "MHA is a wonderful place to work, and it will help mould you into the person you aspire to be. Ultimately, it's not solely about the workplace itself; it's about your personal commitment. If you're not dedicated, not happy, and if you don't invest your heart and soul into your work, it won't be successful regardless of where you choose to work."
