A Wolverhampton father is facing a gruelling recovery after suffering a catastrophic stroke that has left him paralysed on one side. Jamie Baker, 38, from Warstones, suffered the debilitating injury following an epileptic seizure in December 2025. This marks the second time he will have to learn to walk again, having previously undergone surgery for a broken back in 2018.
The Medical Battle
The father-of-two has undergone four complex brain surgeries, including a cranioplasty to rebuild his skull. He has been under the care of three different hospitals over the past five months. His mother Jean said: "Jamie is now having to relearn the most basic of human functions - including to walk again. What many of us take for granted has become a daily battle requiring immense strength, patience, and determination."
Emotional and Family Impact
The emotional toll has been particularly challenging, with Jamie separated from his wife Lucy and daughters Olivia, 12, and nine-year-old Lyla. Lucy has worked tirelessly to arrange home visits and has rearranged their two-bedroom home to accommodate his care needs. The family has been deeply affected, but they remain united in supporting Jamie's recovery.
Community Support
Jean has launched a GoFundMe page to help fund Jamie's ongoing physiotherapy and rehabilitation costs. The community has rallied behind the family, with supporters already contributing more than £6,500. The funds will go towards essential therapies to help Jamie regain his mobility and independence.
Jamie's story is a testament to his resilience and the power of family and community support. His journey to walk again is ongoing, but with each small step, he moves closer to recovery.
