Emergency services rushed to a popular Birmingham beauty spot on Saturday afternoon after a man reportedly fell into the water, leaving him in a critical condition.
Emergency Response at the Reservoir
West Midlands Ambulance Service was alerted to an incident near Icknield Port Road in Edgbaston at 4.13pm on Saturday, January 17. The service deployed a significant number of resources to the scene, including two ambulances, two paramedic officers, and a critical care car.
Paramedics and police also attended the Edgbaston Reservoir location just after 4.30pm following reports of a person in difficulty. Upon arrival, crews discovered a man who was in a critical condition and immediately began administering advanced life support.
Critical Care and Hospital Transfer
The patient, a man in his 20s, required extensive medical intervention at the scene. After stabilising him, crews conveyed the man under emergency driving conditions to Birmingham's major trauma centre, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, for further treatment.
West Midlands Police confirmed their involvement, stating they responded to concerns for a person's safety on Icknield Port Road shortly after 4.30pm on Saturday.
Local Disruption and Scene
The incident was said to have occurred near the reservoir's sailing club. In the aftermath, a footpath situated between the sailing club and the sea cadets base was temporarily closed off to the public while the emergency operation was underway. The path has since been reopened.
