A significant fire on the ninth floor of a Birmingham tower block triggered a major emergency response and the evacuation of residents in the early hours of this morning.
Emergency Services Rush to Hamstead
Seven fire crews from West Midlands Fire Service were dispatched to Hamstead House on Coniston Crescent in the Hamstead area of Birmingham. The alarm was raised at 6.22am today, Monday, January 12, 2026, following multiple 999 calls.
West Midlands Police and West Midlands Ambulance Service also raced to the scene as part of a coordinated multi-agency response to the unfolding incident.
All Residents Accounted For
Firefighters confirmed that all persons from the affected building had been successfully accounted for during the evacuation process. A spokeswoman for the ambulance service later stated there were no injuries reported from the incident.
"We were called to reports of a flat fire on Coniston Crescent, Great Barr, Birmingham at 6.24am this morning," she said. "A critical care paramedic, two paramedic officers, HART paramedics and an ambulance responded. Thankfully there were no injuries."
Fire Confined to One Flat
The blaze, which the fire service classified as a seven-pump fire, appears to have been contained within a single flat on the ninth floor of the residential tower. Crews used one hose reel jet to successfully extinguish the flames.
In a post on social media platform X, West Midlands Fire Service stated: "Fire Service currently in attendance at a tall building fire in Hamstead, Birmingham. This is a seven pump fire. Police and ambulance are also in attendance. Fire believed to be on the 9th floor."
An investigation into the cause of the fire is likely to follow now that the emergency has been brought under control. BirminghamLive has contacted the fire service for further details regarding the incident and the ongoing welfare of displaced residents.
