A man has tragically died after a tree fell onto his caravan during Storm Goretti in Cornwall.

Emergency services were called to the Mawgan area of Helston at around 7.35pm on Thursday, January 8, 2026. The call reported that a tree had fallen onto a caravan as the severe weather conditions of Storm Goretti took hold across the UK.
It is understood that the man, who was in his 50s, was inside the caravan at the time of the incident. His body was discovered the following day, Friday, January 9.

Devon and Cornwall Police stated that work took place at the scene throughout Friday to safely remove the tree and allow for further enquiries. A police spokesperson provided a detailed account of the events.
"Tragically, a man aged in his 50s was located deceased within the caravan," the force confirmed. "His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by officers."
