Broadcaster and journalist Piers Morgan has undergone major surgery after suffering a serious fall that resulted in a broken femur and a new hip.
A Serious Tumble and Immediate Aftermath
The 60-year-old media personality revealed the incident occurred when he tripped on a small step at a London hotel restaurant. The fall, which happened recently, caused significant damage, fracturing his femur – the large bone in the thigh.
Morgan took to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, to share the news with his followers in a characteristically direct post. He outlined the sequence of events, stating the fracture was "so badly I needed a new hip". He is now recovering in hospital following the successful hip replacement procedure.
Recovery Timeline and Well-Wishes
The presenter faces a substantial period of rehabilitation. He informed the public that he will be on crutches for at least six weeks and has been advised against any long-haul travel for a minimum of twelve weeks. Wryly referencing the setback to his 2026, he signed off his announcement with: "New Year off to a cracking start! I blame Donald Trump."
Morgan also shared an image of his post-operative X-ray on Instagram, which clearly displayed the fracture. He was quickly inundated with messages of support from famous friends and colleagues. Former Newsnight presenter Emily Maitlis responded with "Noooo. This is absurd!", while GB News host Eamonn Holmes offered his "sincere sympathies" and jokingly volunteered himself as an expert on the matter.
A Storied Career in Media
Piers Morgan, who began his career at The Sun newspaper in 1988, became the youngest editor of the News of the World at 29 under Rupert Murdoch. He later edited the Daily Mirror and moved into television, hosting ITV's Piers Morgan's Life Stories and a primetime CNN talk show.
He is perhaps best known to UK audiences for his years co-hosting ITV's Good Morning Britain alongside Susanna Reid, a role he left dramatically in 2021. His television work has also included judging roles on Britain's Got Talent and America's Got Talent. He currently hosts the talk show Piers Morgan Uncensored on YouTube.
