A warning has been issued for UK households with pesto in their kitchen cupboards. Filippo Berio has announced an urgent product recall over a serious health risk. The item is currently sold in major retailers including Morrisons and Ocado.
Product Recall Details
The pesto maker has warned customers with allergies not to eat its Hot Chilli Pesto, after the brand failed to declare the presence of fish in the product. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has stated that this could pose a "possible health risk" to anyone with a seafood allergy or intolerance. The affected batch code is LR319, with a best before date of May 15, 2028.
Official Statement
The FSA said: "Filippo Berio UK is recalling the above product from customers and has been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall." The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers.
If you have bought the above product and have an allergy to fish, do not eat it. Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund, the FSA added.

Customer Reviews
In a gushing review on the Tesco website, the product has 5/5. "Delicious, a bit oily but I like that," one wrote. "Ok but Lidl is cheaper and much nicer," a second wrote. A third typed: "Ok product, better than some." Another said: "Absolutely love this. It's not as pricey as some other brands but it is still quite expensive for me. A once in a while treat." And another typed: "It's very tasty and you don't need much of it to transform a dish. I've used it in risottos and cottage pie as well as over pasta."
