Dr Nidhi Kakkar Honored by BAPIO
Dr Nidhi Kakkar, a junior clinical fellow at Stepping Hill Hospital, was added to the BAPIO (British Association for Physicians of Indian Origin) honours list for both a publication on diagnostic challenges in limb weakness and an innovative international presentation on heart care during space travel.
Space Medicine Presentation Wins First Prize
Dr Kakkar gave an abstract presentation on the theme of heart resuscitation for people taking part in space travel at the 71st International Congress of Aviation and Space Medicine in Singapore during October 2025. Her oral presentation based on 'Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation in Space/Microgravity' was very well received and received the first prize in her category during the space-based specialist health forum.
Continued Research on Aerospace Medicine
This is a theme she has returned to, following her earlier article, 'Breathing Beyond Earth: Understanding Respiratory Medicine in an Aerospace Environment' in the Clinical Focus Respiratory Medicine 2025. She also gave a demonstration on the same theme at Stepping Hill Hospital's own Pinewood Educational centre later in the year.
Co-Authored Paper on Neuromuscular Disorder
Dr Kakkar also co-authored a paper on autoimmune neuromuscular disorder known as Myasthenia gravis (MG), with a view to improving diagnosis of this condition.
Stepping Hill Hospital is located in Stockport, Greater Manchester.
