A dedicated team of 54 NHS staff members from Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and Lincolnshire Community Health Services NHS Trust has successfully completed a challenging 20-mile hike around the Edale Skyline in the Peak District. The event, held on Saturday, May 9, aimed to raise funds for the Lincolnshire NHS Charity.
The Grueling Challenge
The Edale Skyline Challenge is a circular high-level route around the Edale Valley, notorious for its difficult navigation, boggy terrain, and significant elevation changes. Participants faced steep climbs, rocky paths, and heavy rain throughout the day. Despite these harsh conditions, the team persevered and has already surpassed its initial £5,000 fundraising target, with donations continuing to flow in.
Participant Experiences
Jade Shucksmith, a mental health practitioner, shared her experience: "The views were amazing. It was a tough day, particularly when the heavens opened, but onwards we all went, and what an achievement. Our guides were brilliant at keeping us going and laughing throughout."
Fundraising Impact
The funds raised will support staff wellbeing initiatives delivered by Lincolnshire NHS Charity. These initiatives include the provision of exercise equipment, team workshops, and additional resources for community staff working in challenging conditions.
Ben Petts, interim charity manager, expressed his gratitude: "Having taken part in this event alongside our NHS staff, I can 100% say it was a testing challenge. I am genuinely thrilled that we've beaten the target. Thank you to everyone who supported this challenge."
Continued Support
Donations are still being accepted via the team's JustGiving page, offering the public an opportunity to contribute to this worthy cause.
