The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and the Labour Party have launched a review into Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and other disability and incapacity benefits. Approximately four million PIP claimants are urged to complete a document before May 28, 2026.
Call for Evidence
The government is calling on the 3.9 million PIP claimants to share their experiences of the benefit through a special form available on the government website. The Labour Party Timms Review seeks feedback on the role, purpose, eligibility, fairness, and equity of PIP awards. The review also examines the experience of claiming PIP and how changing contexts impact the benefit.
Key Questions
The DWP has posed several questions to guide responses:
- How effectively is PIP delivering on its intended role and purpose?
- Does the PIP assessment, including criteria, effectively capture the impact of long-term health conditions and disabilities in the modern world, and provide fair access to appropriate support?
- What is the experience of people claiming PIP, and does this vary for different groups?
- What has changed in wider society and the workplace since 2013, and how might future changes impact PIP?
Evidence can include written submissions, existing data, or unpublished analysis. Providing evidence is optional, and claimants do not need to respond to all prompts.
Deadline and Participation
The call for evidence closes at 11:59 pm on May 28, 2026. The DWP encourages individuals and organizations with lived or learned experience and expertise to contribute. Submissions can take various forms, including reports, data, or written statements.
